Peyronie’s Disease

Peyronie's disease is a problem with the penis caused by scar tissue, called plaque, that forms inside the penis. It can cause the penis to bend upward or to the side. It may also cause loss of width and length of the penis and contribute to the development of erectile dysfunction. Patients with Peyronie’s disease can still have sex, but it may be painful.

The good news is that Peyronie’s disease is treatable. Some men respond well to non-surgical treatments, such as Xiaflex® injections to break up scar tissue, while others may require surgery to fix the condition.

Phoenix urologist Dr. Desi Avila at Ironwood Urology is highly skilled in treating Peyronie’s disease and will discuss all options with you.

Non-surgical Treatments

  • Intralesional injection therapy with Xiaflex® or verapamil
  • Oral medication
