Penile Prosthesis as a Treatment for Peyronie’s Disease

October 8, 2021

Are you looking for Peyronie’s disease treatment in Chandler or Phoenix, AZ? Peyronie’s disease can affect the way you achieve and keep an erection. Those living with this disease may or may not feel pain, especially during an erection. If you have Peyronie’s disease, you probably do not appreciate the effect it has on your penis, and the damper it can put on your sex life. Fortunately, there are treatments for erectile dysfunction due to Peyronie’s disease that can make it possible to once again have a spontaneous erection.

Among the most advanced treatments for Peyronie’s disease is penile prosthesis surgery. While straightening and grafting procedures do work for some patients, others do not respond to it as favorably. As another option, penile prosthesis as a treatment for Peyronie’s disease is both popular and delivers a very high satisfaction rate.

Let’s talk more about penile prosthesis surgery, and where you can go for Peyronie’s disease in Chandler and Phoenix to have this surgery and reclaim your independence in the bedroom.

How a Penile Prosthesis Works

A penile prosthesis involves the implantation of an inflatable device. Depending on the type of penile prosthesis, either two or three parts may be used.

A two-piece inflatable penile prosthesis consists of two cylinders and a small pump. The cylinders, which have tiny fluid-filled reservoirs at the end, are implanted in the penis while the pump is implanted in the scrotum. During sex, all you need to do is press on the pump to fill the cylinders with fluid and achieve a spontaneous and rigid erection that can last for the duration of intercourse. The two-piece prosthesis is discreet and highly convenient due to its one-step inflation and deflation. The surgery to have the parts implanted is also less invasive compared to the procedure to implant a three-piece model.

A three-piece inflatable penile prosthesis consists of three parts: a fluid-filled reservoir, two cylinders, and a pump. The fluid-filled reservoir is implanted in the abdomen, the cylinder in the penis, and the pump in the scrotum. This option is increasingly being used to treat men with Peyronie’s disease. To achieve an erection, one simply squeezes the pump to release fluid from the reservoir and fill the cylinder. While the three-piece penile prosthesis is just as discreet and equally convenient as the two-piece solution, it features more rigid erections. In addition, the three-piece model leaves no fluid behind in the cylinders when deflated, allowing the penis to remain soft and flaccid. For these reasons, the three-piece penile prosthesis has a slightly higher satisfaction rate.
